It was organized by BudgIT in partnership with Open Alliance to address transparency issues and also bridge information gap in government. Open Alliance works on Open Government partnership in Nigeria.

WINNERS OF BUDGIT TRANSPARENCY HACKATHON SMILE HOME WITH CASH REWARDS
The transparency hackathon was held last week at Colab, Kaduna. The hackathon was aimed at finding tech aided solutions to governance in Nigeria. It was organized by BudgIT in partnership with Open Alliance to address transparency issues and also bridge information gap in government. Open Alliance works on Open Government partnership in Nigeria. While BudgIT is a civic tech organization and a specialist in demystifying government finance expenditure for the everyday Nigerian.

The event commenced with a formal introduction by the organizers,  then presentation from participants and the hackathon proper where the pitchers built working prototypes of their ideas. Seven groups were formed and they came up with the following ideas.

Group 1:
THIRD EYE – a prototype tool that can help citizens report crime and other issues.

Group 2:
ReportIT – a reporting prototype tool for citizens to launch reports on every issue.

Group 3:
E-Med – a prototype platform that gives information on nearest hospitals and doctors on duty with easy search function.

Group 4:
CitiDev – a prototype tool that allows citizens vote on priority of projects helping govt plan.

Group 5:
A comprehensive project reporting directory.

Group 6:
School Track – prototype platform that serves as a tracker for government schools, their activities and registration status.

Group 7:
An idea focusing on Education.
After the presentations, a judging panel selected ReportIT as winner of the contest with CitiDev and Project tracking directory placing second and third respectively.

The winners recieved ₦100,000, ₦75,000 and ₦50,000 respectively, and support from BudgIT and CoLab to turn their prototypes into proper startups.
