nHub Nigeria is a Leading technology hub in Nigeria. It aims
to establish a tech ecosystem in the northern part of Nigeria by using technology
to bridge the gap in the region’s IT participation by transforming Jos into a tech
outsourcing hub for Africa. It has attracted developers from across the
northern states as well as other parts of the country to converge in Jos and
train them into world class developers. Software developers are nHub's
products, nHub has created an industry that was absent in the entirety of the
region and it is gradually turning into an outsourcing hub.
It has organized several
successful Competitions and events’ including the NASA Space Apps competition
in Jos and it is also on the verge of hosting one of the biggest hackathon in
Africa in early November this year. "The Silicon Plateau" is a
project pursued by nHub which will see the North compete with Yabacon or Lagos
in the tech outsourcing space. It has initiated a Sevocoder programming club which
is designed to foster interest among young people in software engineering
especially students in secondary schools. Among some of its initiatives is the women in tech initiative that gives out scholarships to
women at its nAcademy to enhance their knowledge and skills in the ever-growing
technology world. These skills will be paramount for women to meet-up and
compete effectively the world tech space.
Four (4) startups from nHub are ready for scale-up and six
(6) others are in various stages of incubation. Most of their innovation and
start-ups are centered on solving real life problems; such as: The Logical Address App, which
addresses the problem of the vague addressing system Nigeria operates. Hamtu an application created to bridge
the gap between patient and doctor, Doctor and doctor, and also patient and
patient in terms of medical consultation, referrals, prescriptions and
experiences. Tacit VR – leverages
virtual reality to advance education. Virtual reality in an untapped niche in
Nigeria and TacitVR is at the frontier building the future of virtual reality. Yiino app facilitates
generation of needed information on expiring drugs and linkages of relevant
healthcare institutions.
As part of its services, nHub offers members desk
space, wireless internet access, a staffed reception area to receive their
guests and a lounge all at a nominal fee. They also provide a cost effective
way for startups to grow their businesses, maintain a professional image and
manage their expenses. It is strategically located within the city (where
production costs are relatively cheaper), and embedded in an entrepreneurial
environment that fosters learning and collaboration. There is also the nAcademy,
a full-time immersive training academy for making better programmers, software
engineers and mobile app developers. NHub’s goal is to cultivate a society of
highly independent youths that can go on to be self-reliant without waiting on
the Government for employment(s).
nHub was nominated by Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry
for an award in the category of “INNOVATION CLUSTER OF THE YEAR” alongside
‘CCHUB’, ‘IDEA NIGERIA’, ‘PASSION INCUBATOR’, MHUB and also by the Nigeria TechnologyAwards (NiTA) for the Best Technology Innovation Hub category.
